Norton 360 has red x

Some experts may insist you move HJT before they'll begin working with you. Others will start the repair process, advising you to move HJT as one of the very first steps. Failure to do so can result in losing potentially critical information. Post Reply. Top Contributor. Dell Support Resources. Latest Solutions. Can't find what you're looking for?

You can post your question in our community. Sign up now. Then the support Windows stops responding. Then I opened Norton.

Then I clicked on Help and Support and then clicked on Support. Then I clicked on Begin Support Session. Then it stops responding. I tried this 14 different times and I get the following error message each time:. Why does Identity Protection constantly need me to fix it and why is Help and Support keep saying Not responding and give the same error message each time. Do you have any third party programs installed that are designed to mask your online surfing habits Ghost Surf is an example, but I'm sure there are others?

Do you have activeX set to disabled? Do you have "allow third party browser extensions" enabled in IE? I had also emailed Symantec so I could get this resolved some how. I was given a web site address in the email about Norton v2. Title:Internet Explorer 8 Beta compatibility with Norton 2. Because IE8 is in Beta, there are definitely some issues that still need to be worked out. I would not expect this problem to persist once IE8 is fully released and any appropriate updates are made.

Norton v2. PapauZ is right. I'll answer both comments. A Mac is not impervious from viruses. This is a common misconception. A virus can be written for any computer system. There are just fewer threats for a Mac as it hasn't been as prevelant as PC's.

As to when N V3 will come out, I don't have a date, but I would recommend you renew when your subscription comes up as you are entitled to download and install the latest version as long as your subscription is current. Thank your for the suggestions. Somehow, a few days ago, I got it fixed and their is no longer a Red X for Norton I do have a Red X for Ghost Remdey: Run the Define Backup Wizard and then run the backup to create a current recovery point.

My issue is that when I run the backup as listed above, I get a message something to the effect there is not enough room on my drive. Ugh, I will try it again when I have time and let you know the actual message, but this takes a long time. If you have any suggestions before I start, I would greatly appreciate the input so I can be on the right track and make this thing work for me. When you get an error with Ghost be aware that there are multiple parts to these error messages.

Check your destination drive for free space. You can also configure your compression for the backup. As long as your subscription is current, you are entitled to install the latest version. That includes when v3 comes out. Ok, can't say I am a fan or Norton, but my clients use it.

So, my latest problem is the same thing here:. I didn't find the answer here yet in this thread. We are using IE7 not IE8, so that suggestion is not valid. So far, I haven't really seen any explanation of what this really is. When you open IE, does the toolbar say "Phishing Expired"?

It is an annoyance I would just as soon be rid of. I have no intention of regularly rebooting to clear an erroneous red x. I simply don't want to see it unless something is legitimately wrong. I previously used NIS or Endpoint depending on the nature of the system.

I junked the latter for several reasons, cost being prominent among them. I was highly satisfied with NIS and would still be using it if it weren't being phased out. Incidentally, I purchased the 10 user backup package because I needed that many licenses and the per user cost was radically lower than the alternatives. I purchased it having no intention of utilizing the extraneous services, backup included.

Updated Norton antivirus's inbuilt cryptominer has re-entered the public consciousness after a random Twitter bod expressed annoyance at how difficult it is to uninstall. The addition of Ncrypt.

Back in June, NortonLifeLock, owner of the unloved PC antivirus product, declared it was offering Ethereum mining as part of its antivirus suite. NortonLifeLock's pitch, as we reported , was that people dabbling in cryptocurrency mining probably weren't paying attention to security — so what better way than to take up a cryptocurrency miner than installing one from a trusted consumer security brand? In return for you installing their cryptominer on your home PC, NortonLifeLock skims off a mere 15 per cent of whatever digital currency you generate.

While this compares well to the per cent takings that criminals covertly deploying cryptominers help themselves to, some might say it's a bit excessive for minimal effort on Norton's part. Other netizens dotted around the web have complained that they find it difficult to uninstall the Norton cryptominer.

We have asked Norton for comment and will update this article when we hear back from the biz. According to the company's FAQ, the function must be activated by the users themselves and requires powerful hardware to meet its system requirements.

The cryptominer is signposted during installation of Norton , though given the well-documented phenomenon of folks speedily clicking away EULAs, it's entirely likely non-technical users are unknowingly enabling it and then complaining about suddenly slow-running PCs due to a cryptominer technically running with their permission.

Uninstalling it altogether takes a bit more persistence, it appears, with users needing to disable Norton Product Tamper Protection intended to protect the antivirus product from being disabled or deleted by malware before going through the usual Windows uninstallation steps. Norton isn't alone: last year a maker of Wi-Fi routers offered to mine cryptocurrency on users' devices if they supplied connectivity to the general public.

Norton has been in touch to say: "Norton Crypto is an opt-in feature only and is not enabled without user permission. If users have turned on Norton Crypto but no longer wish to use the feature, it can be disabled through Norton by temporarily shutting off "tamper protection" which allows users to modify the Norton installation and deleting NCrypt.

Two serious security vulnerabilities were recently found in AWS services, but because they were responsibly reported and the cloud biz responded quickly, no harm appears to have been done. On Thursday, Orca Security published details about Superglue and BreakingFormation , vulnerabilities in AWS Glue and AWS Cloud Formation that allowed attackers to access data for other customers and to access files and make server-side requests to internal web services infrastructure.

AWS Glue is a serverless data integration service for preparing data for subsequent processing.
